While the sequel to 1996’s Independence Day is still on the long journey of development, director Roland Emmerich revealed to MTV News that he plans to split the sequel into two movies with the working title being ID4-Ever Part I and Part II.

All that he revealed about the story was the following: “The idea is just to continue the story and actually I don’t know how many years ago this was—twelve, thirteen, fourteen years ago—and just continue where it ended.”  He also promised, “The story will stay firmly on the planet.  It’s always about Earth and that Earth gets invaded.”

The director still hopes that Will Smith will return as Captain Steven Hiller.
