McG Still Directing Terminator 5 and 6?

6a00d8341c630a53ef01156f9276c6970c-320wiThe Terminator franchise was up for sale recently.  But in spite of that, Terminator Salvation director McG told a BD-Live chat community that he is still planning to direct Terminator 5 and 6. He revealed plans to have Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) in the next film but “he’s not sure how he’s going to pull it off.”  Sarah Connor was the main character of The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day before Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines killed the character offscreen.  McG managed to bring Hamilton back for voiceover work on Terminator Salvation.

Back in May, McG promised that the next films would explore more of Kate Connor’s (Bryce Dallas Howard) pregnancy, as well as “the genesis of Marcus [Sam Worthington], the coming of time travel and the fate of John Connor himself.”

However, current Terminator owners in the Halcyon group have reported that they are still in negotiations for auctioning the rights to the franchise to other studios and production companies.  As such, it is unlikely that there will be any development of a sequel to this year’s Terminator Salvation until somebody buys the rights.

It is also unknown if the next movie will feature the return of Christian Bale as John Connor and Anton Yelchin as Kyle Reese.
