‘The Descent: Part 2′ Pushed to DVD

descent2Lionsgate Home Entertainment has announced that the long-delayed and highly anticipated followup to Neil Marshall’s ‘The Descent’ won’t be getting a U.S. theatrical release. Instead, the studio is has decided to put out the movie on DVD in late April. It’s a shame that this one won’t be hitting theaters since the original played so marvelously on the big screen. Nonetheless, the Jon Harris directed sequel, which continues with the story of Sarah, the lone survivor of a spelunking trip gone horribly, horribly wrong, should still be a fun monster-in-the-dark romp.

Until the last few years, straight to DVD releases might as well have sported a disclaimer exclaiming “This movie sucks!”, but fortunately, the industry has evolved to understand that today’s insular movie buffs are used to the home theatre experience, and that DVD/Blu-ray is a thriving business. It may never be a match for time-tested effect of seeing a movie on the big screen, but it might lend a helping hand in ever-expanding land of horror sequels.
