Movies
In the last few years, the SciFi network has made some relatively big-budgeted, considerably well-made B-movies. They have titles like ‘Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus’ and they star quasi actors like Deborah Gibson. They’re, of course, intended to be cheeky genre mash-ups; the kind of movies that go well with a case of beer and you and your friends’ rendition of ‘Mystery Science Theatre 3000″.
Though, some people don’t really need to explain themselves… people like Roger Corman. The mega producer of countless B-movies and the pioneer of no-nonsense assembly line moviemaking that happened to be stepping stones for major Hollywood talent like James Cameron and Martin Scorsese. He still steps behind the camera to direct though, and his latest offering already seems to be the stuff cult classics are made of. ’Sharktopus’, Corman’s latest offering as a director, has just been greenlit by the SciFi channel. The genius of this new project is both straightforward and unexplainable. In any case, old school scifi fans should mark this on their calender as one of the most important events of the year.
