‘Caprica’ Trailer Hints at Big Things to Come

The new SyFy series Caprica, a prequel to Battlestar Galactica, is on a long hiatus till Janury 2011, giving viewers plenty of time to catch up on the series’s first run before its return. This weekend at Comic Con, a trailer for the rest of season 1 premiered, promising many bigger things to come as well as several action sequences, which should appease Battlestar fans looking for more excitement in the show.

Godzilla To Return To The Big Screen in 2012!

At Comic Con, Legendary Pictures revealed the look of the new Godzilla, who is set to return to the movies in 2012. To celebrate the beginning of production, the company handed out T-shirts with Godzilla on them. Fans who looked through a webcam could see their shirts come to life with Godzilla shooting out blue “atomic breath.”

One hopes that this Godzilla fares better than the 1998 remake!

The Batman Film That Never Was

For any Batman fans out there, yours truly has written a three part review on Tim Burton’s first treatment for Batman, co-written in 1985 with Julie Hickson. The treatment was much different than Burton’s final film and spanned all the way from Bruce’s childhood with his parents to the origin of Robin. Several of the ideas presented in this treatment went on to the Batman movies, cartoons, and comics. Enjoy:

‘Sucker Punch’ Trailer Online

After its debut on Comic Con, the Sucker Punch trailer is now online. Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen) co-wrote and directed this out-of-this-world action film set between reality and a dream world, featuring young actresses Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie Chung, Jena Malone, and Abbie Cornish wearing tight clothes while fighting off samurais, zombies, and dragons.

The film will be released on March 25, 2011.

Comic Con Round-Up

The San Diego Comic Con was in full stride this past week. Unfortunately not everyone was able to go and had to resort to the Net for announcements. For some sites, you may have to sift through tons of different stories on other projects before finding the news you really want.

Rodriguez Confirms Predators Sequel Is Likely

At Comic Con this week, Predators writer and producer Robert Rodriguez confirmed that Fox will likely greenlight a sequel to this year’s Predators. He hinted that the next film will have a broader scope: “They really wanted [Predators] to be pretty contained, pretty scaled-back. They didn’t want to put too many of the ideas into it that we could save for a second one. So we could see what the appetite was, because the bigger movie would actually be what comes following that. That kind of sets up a new storyline, new location and world, and then you can really go crazy from there.”

Rodriguez mentioned that he has an idea for the sequel and will see what different writers can do with his premise. At this early stage, it’s unknown if any of the (surviving) cast members from this year’s film will return.

Karl Urban Up for the new Judge Dredd?

Rumor has it that Karl Urban (Star Trek) is up for the role of Judge Dredd in the reboot of the comic book adaptation. Pete Travis will direct the film in 3D, with Alex Garland writing the script. Judge Dredd was previously adapted into the 1995 film with Sylvester Stallone.

A common criticism of the 1995 adaptation was that Stallone spent most of the movie without wearing the Judge Dredd helmet, whereas in the comics, Dredd would never take his helmet off and his full face was unknown. Reports indicate that Dredd, like the comics, will not take his helmet off in the movie and the script will stay more true to the source material.

The Bionic Woman: Season One Coming to DVD in October

The original Bionic Woman is being released on DVD for the first time in North America on October 19, 2010 in a four-disc set that not only covers the first season, but also includes five crossover episodes from The Six Million Dollar Man.

The series follows Jaime Sommers, who gains superhuman abilities from a lifechanging surgery and uses her new skills to fight evildoers.

Special features include:

- a featurette on the development of the show called Bionic Beginnings, featuring an exclusive interview with Lindsay Wagner

- episode commentary from director Alan J. Levi, writer James D. Parriot, and writer/director Kenth Johnson

Ralph McQuarrie’s Star Wars Art Coming to Orlando

All Star Wars fans should be familiar with the work of Ralph McQuarrie. The designer helped create the visuals of the Star Wars Universe on paper before Lucas translated them on the big screen. While his works were compiled into a 400 page book The Art of Ralph McQuarrie, a furnace repair job lead McQuarrie to move one of his shelves and discover more pieces of art that never got to be published in the book. One includes a sketch of Darth Vader (pictured here) for The Empire Strikes Back.

Fans will have the chance to look at these new works of art at Celebration V in Orlando, Florida from August 12-15th at the Orange County Convention Center. Be sure to come with your Sci Fi Crush and/or meet with fellow Fan Crush members!

‘Avatar’ Rerelease Trailer Reveals New Footage

A TV promo for Avatar: Special Edition, set for August 27th release, reveals a glimpse at some of the eight minutes of footage that will be attached to the new cut of the film, with Jake and Neytiri encountering new flying disc-like creatures. Check it out at Moviehole below:
