Avatar Re-Release Set for August 27th

James Cameron became king of the box office world again when Avatar beat Titanic to become the highest grossing film of all time.  Now, the film is set for  limited engagement exclusive to Digital 3D and IMAX 3D.  But that’s not all.  The new re-release will feature eight minutes of new footage (one would think [...]

Avatar: The Novel

Avatar: The Novel

Remember the exciting wordplay, dense mythology and rich characters in ‘Avatar’. No? How about the big ass tree that exploded at the end? Maybe that rings a bell. Or maybe what you  remember from James Cameron’s epic FX game changer is just one giant, swirling 3D collage of vibrant colors and sweet aerial battles. In [...]

James Cameron Caught in New 'Spiderman' Web

James Cameron Caught in New ‘Spiderman’ Web

Last week Warner Bros. reported that they had recruited Christopher  Nolan to mentor their dwindling ‘Superman’ franchise in hopes that he can infuse a little of the flair that helped make the current ‘Batman’ franchise such a monster success. Now it looks like Columbia Pictures has adopted the same plan of attack in an effort [...]

The Academy Shows Some Sci-Fi Love

The Academy Shows Some Sci-Fi Love

With the Oscars doubling the best picture race to ten slots for the first time ever, moviegoers watched edge during the announcement of the nominees to see if the Academy would finally warm up to the likes of sci-fi and fantasy films. The result was a bit of a mixed bag. ‘Avatar’, of course, secured [...]

Last Airbender Superbowl Spot

Last Airbender Superbowl Spot

Well, M. Night Shyamalan needs a hit. After the unmatched drudgery he released onto us in the form of The Happening, it was probably in everyone’s best interest that he stray away from his original material and tackle something with a built-in audience. In July, he’ll release ‘The Last Airbender’, a big budget live-action adaptation [...]

This past summer I was lucky enough to catch a double feature of Aliens and The Abyss with the monster brain himself, James Cameron, there to conduct a Q & A during the intermission. The theatre was packed to the gills with hardcore movie buffs that salivated over the gorgeous 70mm prints of two of [...]

Avatar on Track $1 Billion? That Was the Plan

Avatar on Track $1 Billion? That Was the Plan

Not surprisingly, Messianic monster-brain James Cameron has devoured audiences worldwide with his technically astounding (and apparently far less important, horrendously written) film Avatar. In less than a month, he’s banked a few kilometric tons of money at the box office; already rivaling some other flick he made called Titanic. I’m sure Cameron saw this coming, [...]

Early 'Avatar' Reviews Give Positive Buzz

Early ‘Avatar’ Reviews Give Positive Buzz

James Cameron’s latest epic, Avatar, was screened in London recently and early reviews have leaked online, generating positive buzz for the much-hyped film.
The movie is, as of this posting, at 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, with the only negative review at the moment from the Guardian, which called it “baggy, longwinded and, for all the light-speed [...]

James Cameron Developing New Sci-Fi Script

James Cameron Developing New Sci-Fi Script

James Cameron’s latest feature, Avatar, hasn’t even been released yet, but it appears the director may already be starting another project.  Cameron is apparently working on a screenplay with Shane Salerno, who wrote Shaft, Armageddon, and Alien Vs. Predator: Requiem.
Not much has been said about the script other than it is for an action/sci-fi film [...]
