Even the most passionate of fans will concede that over the course of six years, LOST has become an progressively exasperating puzzle to solve, but solve it they must. Sure, a couple pieces might get lost between the sofa along the way, but as the big picture begins to take shape in the programs final episodes, the most grandiose mysteries that encompass the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815 are beginning to come into focus in bold, unexpected ways.

No mystery, however, has been more profound and affecting than the journey of John Locke. Once a tragically crippled man angry at the world, then a born-again spiritual penchant to the island, and now… the smoke monster? It’s true. The island’s supernatural security system of sorts — a murderous, elusive column of black smoke — has baffled and intrigued viewers since the shows first episode (long before they ever knew what it was). Presumed at this point to be a mystical incarnation of the benevolent Jacob’s nemesis (dubbed the “Man in Black”), who duped Ben — in the guise of Jack’s father — to kill John Locke, eventually inhabiting Locke’s body as a duplicitous loophole of sorts… eh, see what I mean? Exasperating.

Thankfully, Entertainment Weekly sat down with Terry O’Quinn delve into the secrets about Locke, Un-Locke, Smokey, the Man in Black, whatever you want to call him, and to a greater extent, what it has been like to play a character whose motivations are constantly shifting in one of the most elaborately constructed shows in television history. Enjoy.

Known almost exclusively for playing the sexy fugitive Kate Austen on ABC’s monster-hit program, Lilly also has a long running history with humanitarian work, with this effort specifically dear to your heart. The auction ends today, so fanboys, break open those piggy banks and rejoice becuase the woman of your dreams is merely a bid away. The creators have stated time and again that this last season is primarily for the fans; people who have paid their dues and slaved over the excruciating minutia of the show, never doubting the writers but constantly probing them with their own theories.

Luckily, for those who actually have lives and are now tuning in just to see what the fuss is all about, executive producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof have offered a little exclusive guidance about the this season’s opener ‘LA X Parts 1 and 2’. Parallel universes. Time-Travel. Reincarnation. Smoke monsters. It’s all there. Read for your self at http://popwatch.ew.com/2010/02/02/lost-premiere-damon-carlton/

Men of science, men of faith… tonight marks the beginning of the end for all. It’s certainly a surreal moment for anyone who has embarked on the journey of LOST for the last six years. Six years of wonder, excitement, frustration and brilliance. No show in the history of television has gotten away with so much in the public network forum and, based on the steady decline of the power of television, no show ever will.

Before you re-open the book tonight with the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815, do yourself a favor and spend some time with the man who is responsible for all the bold brush strokes in this work of art that is LOST, executive producer and co-creator Damon Lindelof. He gives a stellar interview with Collider.com (link below) wherein he expresses, amongst other things, his immense gratitude for being allowed to end the show on the terms he and his writing staff have decided on and his reaction to the Trekkie-like fan following that has encompassed his creation over the years.

So, may Jacob watch over you, may your constant be with you and may the Island grant you destiny. It’s been a long time since we started asking ourselves the questions, and tonight, it looks we we’re going to start getting some answers.

Namaste.

No show in the history of television has had more fun with viral marketing than ABC’s Lost, partly because viral marketing is a relatively new strategy in television and partly because the creative forces behind Lost are extraordinarily clever. Before the show even aired there was brilliant ingenuity laced in the marketing, like when the producers threw a few dozen glass bottles off of the Santa Monica pier stuffed with Missing Person sheets for the fabled passengers aboard Oceanic Flight 815. Befuddled vacationers didn’t know what to make of it, but were undeniably fascinated.

Now, anyone who watches the show intently knows that in the off season the folks behind Lost do a great job of keeping their fans salivating with viral videos, alternate reality games, ghost-written literature and a whole slew of other maddeningly inventive approaches to staying relevant. As last season ended, we were left with a mind-bending cliffhanger (as usual) wherein Juliet (Elizabeth Mitchell) detonated a hydrogen bomb that was intended to negate all of the tragic events that ensued on the island post-crash. If all went to plan after the cool fade-to-white title card, we can expect all who boarded that plane (even those who later perished) to land safely at LAX as scheduled. Or can we? My guess is this: Based on what we know, which is that the season premiere is entitled “LA X” and Lost likes to mess with your head, the passengers will arrive in LA as planned only it won’t be 2004… it’ll be 2010. Yes, just as the plane crash coincided with the shows original air date (September 22, 2004), I believe the show will end with a resynchronization of the timeline, with the concluding events of the epic series playing out in present.

We’ve still got a little under a month before we see just how right or wrong I am, but here’s a little video that certainly hints at an alternative reality of sorts… take it away Hurley.Mr. Clucks – Hurley\’s New Chicken Shack!

Not even The Man can alter destiny. LOST fans had plenty of reason to be on edge this week, as there were rumors flying around that the final season premiere of the show was in danger of being bumped back to a later date due to a pending State of the Union address.

However, today White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs let it be known that fates of the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815 are going to continue to unfold, as scheduled, with a two-hour premiere episode on February 2nd. “I don’t foresee a scenario in which millions of people who hope to finally get some conclusion with ‘Lost’ are preempted by the president,” he said. “You can quote a senior administration official.” It should also be noted that while many network shows have elected to not to compete with NBC’s broadcast of the Winter Olympics, Lost has decided to brave the waters in the ratings pool and attempt air the entire season without any breaks… Namaste.

For someone who’s never seen the show, trying to absorb five seasons worth of LOST in eight minutes is sort of like trying to learn Korean while dismantling a bomb. Nonetheless, for the past few seasons, videos have surfaced on the Internet that attempt to summarize the shows labyrinthine storyline in 8:15 (as in Oceanic Flight 815). Myself being someone who watches the show religiously, I get a kick out of watching someone attempt the impossible.

In an effort to allay any fears that the upcoming and hotly anticipated screen adaptation of Cowboys and Aliens bears a resemblance to such disposable Western mash-ups as Wild Wild West, screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Robert Ocri (Star Trek, Fringe) are letting it be known that the joke’s not on anyone – especially the aliens. “It’s not a comedy,” says Kurtzman. “What we came to is imagine you’re watching ‘Unforgiven’ and then the aliens from ‘Alien’ land.” After knocking skeptics on their ass with the spot-on Stark Trek franchise reboot, I’m inclined to believe what these guys say and hop right onto the bandwagon.
The duo is tight-lipped about any specific deviations from the graphic novel, but the project, with its stellar collaborative zeal, seems to be taking buzz-worthy shape. There’s Jon “Iron Man” Favreau behind the camera, Robert Downey Jr. in front of it, and Lost show-runner Damon Lindelof helping with the adaptation; if audiences take the bait, the project has the potential to both revive the Western genre and give a little intergalactic street cred back to movie aliens.
